EDDIE SAENZ LAUNCHES TV CAMPAIGN FOR POSITIVE CHANGE

Democrat Calls For Universal Health Care, Teacher Pay Raise, Affordable College For Middle-Class Families

(EDINBURG) — Eddie Saenz, the longtime community leader challenging an embattled incumbent in next month’s Democratic primary, today launched a new television ad campaign, calling for universal health care, a teacher pay raise, and more affordable college tuition for middle-class families.

“The stakes in this election are high, and I want to make my case directly to voters that we can improve our quality of life in South Texas if we have the courage to change,” Saenz said.

The spot opens with still photographs of the candidate as a high school graduate, at his wedding, behind his desk in his successful civil engineering firm, and with his family: wife Sandra and daughter Cassandra. A narrator tells the story:

Like many of us,
Eddie Saenz had worked hard to get an education,
build a business, raise a family,
and take a leadership role in our community.

Then, the spot moves to footage of a doctor providing care to a child, a teacher working on her lesson plans, and a college classroom as the narrator continues:

Now he’s running for the Texas House
to guarantee health care for every child,
raise our teachers’ pay,
and make college affordable again for middle-class families.

The spot closes with Saenz speaking directly to the viewer:

I may not be the slickest politician in this race,
but I know who I am,
and I know that you deserve someone in Austin
whose only special interest in you.

Entitled “You” and produced by Saenz’ campaign team, the spot will run on all local stations through Election Day. It is also available on Saenz’ campaign website by clicking here: www.saenzforsouthtexas.com

Saenz is chairman of South Texas Health Systems and is a vocal advocate for universal health care, a veteran’s hospital in Hidalgo County, and increased investment in public schools and colleges.

Backed by mayors and community leaders throughout the district, Saenz has called for stepping up efforts to create jobs, expand access to quality health care, improve public schools, make college tuition rates affordable, and strengthen vital public services.

Owner and chief executive officer of one of South Texas’ leading civil engineering firms, Saenz is a recognized expert in helping cities, school districts, and other public entities improve their operations and basic services.

Saenz is a former chairman of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Border Infrastructure Coalition Transportation Committee, and the Edinburg 2020 Action Committee.

A graduate of McAllen High, he earned his degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He and his wife and child live in Edinburg.

The Democratic primary is scheduled for March 4. Early voting begins on Tuesday, February 19 and runs through Friday, February 29.
