About Eddie

NEW DAY, NEW DIRECTION

Eddie Saenz has been creating new jobs, providing good health care benefits, and helping to build strong communities in Hidalgo County for more than two decades. He is uniquely qualified to represent those mainstream values to the Texas Legislature.

“My campaign offers hope to a community united for positive change,” Eddie saus. “We can’t afford more of the same in Austin.”

Eddie currently serves as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Edinburg Regional Medical Center and Edinburg Children’s Hospital, an award-winning network of acute-care hospitals specializing in children’s care and cardiovascular health. He also served as chairman of Avance, a non-profit organization whose focus is to strengthen families. Avance helped initiate the CHIP enrollment process in the valley.

“Texas should be the nation’s leader in children’s health, but instead we’re in last place,” he says. “Six years after taking power, the Austin insiders and their local allies have failed to get the job done.”

Owner and chief executive officer of one of South Texas’ leading civil engineering firms, Eddie is an expert in helping cities, school districts, and others develop vital public services for the public good.

“Meeting a payroll and providing health care for my employees isn’t just the right thing to do,” he says. “It helps serve as an example for other small business of what’s possible when their state government lets them down.”

A former chairman of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Border Infrastructure Coalition Transportation Committee, and the Edinburg 2020 Action Committee, Eddie has earned a reputation for his bold vision and seasoned leadership on public water systems, transportation, and school infrastructure.

“As an engineer, I know that the best way to shape a better future is to reach out and build it,” Eddie says.

Eddie earned his degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.

Eddie and his wife Sandra have a daughter, Cassandra, a high school senior. They live in Edinburg.
